The National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) is calling for a significant increase in budget allocation to support its operations and initiatives aimed at empowering persons with disabilities. According to NCD Executive Director Samuel Dean, the current allocation of $500,000 is insufficient to meet the commission’s objectives.
Dean highlighted that funding remains a major obstacle in enhancing vocational skills among persons with disabilities, which is crucial for their empowerment and inclusion in society. He emphasized the need for financial support to create sustainable opportunities for individuals with disabilities, contributing to their independence and self-sufficiency. The NCD is urging the government to consider increasing the budget allocation to better support the commission’s initiatives. This appeal is part of a broader effort to ensure that persons with disabilities are included in national development and decision-making processes.
In a separate development, the NCD has presented $650 to the Free Pentecostal Global Mission High School in Monrovia. The funds were raised by Director Dean during his recent visit to the United States, where he appealed for support for the education of disabled children in Liberia. The amount was donated by the Christ Assembly Lutheran Church, which responded warmly to Director Dean’s plea. Receiving the donation, the school’s Principal, Randall Dweh, thanked the NCD for prioritizing the development of young people with disabilities in Liberia. This gesture demonstrates the commission’s commitment to supporting the education and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
