Former President George Manneh Weah has issued a statement calling for respect for the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legitimacy of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s leadership in the House of Representatives. In his statement, Weah emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and constitutional order in Liberia’s fragile democracy.
Weah warned that any attempt to undermine or dismiss the Supreme Court’s decision would threaten the nation’s foundation and risk plunging Liberia into a constitutional crisis. He urged President Joseph Boakai and his administration to respect the ruling and uphold constitutional order, cautioning that ignoring or rejecting the judiciary’s authority would undermine the sovereignty of the Constitution and endanger peace with dire consequences.
The former President also appealed to Liberia’s international partners to encourage the Boakai administration to comply with the Supreme Court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of their investments in Liberia’s stability and democratic progress.
Weah emphasized that Liberia’s democracy is founded on justice, legality, and the rule of law, and that it is the shared duty of all Liberians to defend these principles. He called on the people to stand united and firm in support of the Constitution, regardless of political pressures or challenges.
