H.E. George Manneh Weah, the political leader of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has condemned the demolition of the party’s headquarters, calling it a “failed mission to destroy and erase the CDC.” He urged his supporters to stay calm and abide by the law, highlighting the need for due process and peaceful coexistence.
“In the ongoing legal dispute regarding the ownership of the CDC headquarters, our party has consistently adhered to the rule of law and has openly expressed our readiness to accept the court’s final decision, no matter the outcome. However, before the matter was fully resolved, the overly eager, partisan police leadership, acting on direct orders from Boakai himself, jumped into action. This was not a lawful eviction; it was a misguided attempt to dismantle the CDC, fulfilling Boakai’s long-expressed desires to his followers,” asserted the CDC leader.
“We have witnessed yet another example of the Unity Party government’s blatant disregard for the rule of law,” Weah stated. “Fueled by a sense of impunity, they continue to misuse their power, putting our nation’s delicate peace and democracy to the test.” He further described the Unity Party leadership under President Boakai as “destroyers, while we are builders,” CDC political leader stated.
Former President Weah called on CDC supporters to rally together and channel their efforts into building a new, modern headquarters. “The unity, strength, and identity of our Party and coalition aren’t found in bricks and mortar,” he emphasized. “They reside in the minds, hearts, and fighting spirit of our dedicated supporters.”
Despite facing a setback, Weah remains hopeful about the party’s political future. “Together, we will build a better homeland for our party,” he declared. “So help me God.” To manage the construction of a new headquarters, a Special National Headquarters Delivery Committee will be formed.
While carrying out this controversial act, surrounded by the cheers of their supporters, they overlooked the profound silence from the vast majority of ordinary Liberians. Our people are in shock at this administration’s reckless actions in its pursuit of power. The former president acknowledged that losing their office building is indeed a setback, but he stressed that it’s just a temporary hurdle. “We shall overcome this sooner rather than later, thanks to your unwavering commitment, determination, and resilience, fellow Cdcians, coalitions, well-wishers, and sympathizers.”
The CDC had been occupying the property, a 4.23-acre plot near Bernard’s Beach, under a lease agreement. However, a legal dispute arose over ownership, with the court ultimately siding with the Estate of Martha Stubblefield Bernard. The court ordered the CDC to vacate the premises, a decision enforced by the Liberia National Police.
