We Never Fought for Free: UP Youth Announces Nationwide Protest on July 17

The Ruling Unity Party Youth Congress has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest on July 17, 2025, to demand jobs and opportunities for struggling young partisans. According to the group’s chairman, Togar Melvin Cephas, the protest aims to remind President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of his commitment to empowering the youth and to bring attention to the pressing issue of unemployment facing thousands of partisans.

The protest is expected to be peaceful, with the Unity Party Youth Congress assuring the public that their demonstration will be respectful and mature. The group is calling on all Liberian youth, particularly those within the Unity Party, to join them on July 17 to peacefully demand jobs and opportunities. Chairman Cephas emphasized that their protest is not in support of any other group’s activities including the planned protest by controversial Mulbah Morlu, but rather a demonstration of their commitment to finding solutions to the challenges facing their youth. The Youth Chair praised President Boakai for his exceptional representation in Washington, which has restored Liberia’s reputation among the international community and attracted substantial direct investment opportunities, potentially worth billions of dollars, for the country.
