Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar has publicly criticized Vice President Jeremiah Koung, claiming that Koung has ostracized him from the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction, a political party founded by the late Nimba Senator Prince Johnson. Senator Kogar has alleged that the Vice President has reduced him to the role of an “ordinary bag boy” and in the constant habit of coercing him into confirming presidential nominees without regard for their competence.
During a late-night appearance on BKS TV on August 25, an online platform dedicated to promoting a unified agenda for Nimba, the frustrated Senator shared his feelings of humiliation following the recent by-election in District 5 of Nimba County. He revealed that his preferred candidate for the seat was dismissed by the Vice President without any consultation, forcing him to take a neutral stance during the election. Kogar expressed deep frustration, noting that as a former representative of the district, he felt stripped of his right to have a say in who should succeed him.
Additionally, Kogar lamented that all the recommendations he made to Vice President Koung for presidential appointments have been completely ignored, leaving him powerless to empower his constituents. The Senator opened up about his fallout with the Vice President, which began when the Vice President started entertaining gossips that he would betray him by accepting a role as a Vice Presidential candidate for an opposition party in the 2029 presidential elections. The Senator acknowledged that he has started holding meetings with important political figures in Nimba and beyond to foster unity and strengthen alliances.
Kogar mentioned that he has formally complained to President Joseph Boakai about Vice President Jeremiah Koung, citing disrespect and neglect. Despite this, he has resolved to remain indifferent to the outcome and is committed to speaking truth to power, no matter the repercussions. No response has been forthcoming from the Office of the Vice President regarding Senator Kogar’s grave allegations.
