Expect Unspecified Consequences If Doe Jr. Dies: Mamie Doe Warns Boakai

The family of former Liberian President Samuel Kanyon Doe has issued a serious warning to President Joseph Boakai, stating there will be unspecified consequences if Samuel Doe Jr. does not receive the medical attention he urgently needs. They claim that the son of the former president requires a kidney transplant and that they have exhausted every avenue trying to keep him alive. “The stress and trauma of this cruel political limbo have only made his condition worse. His life is now hanging by a thread. Will you grant us our rightful inheritance to help him, or will this matter be handed off to yet another bureaucrat in your office who will let it fade away under the Sirleaf edict, once again?” the family expressed in their letter to President Boakai.

The Doe family also highlighted to President Boakai two long-standing issues: enforcing a 2019 ECOWAS Court ruling in their favor and securing the pension, state benefits, and entitlements owed to the late First Lady Nancy Bohn Doe, which have been unresolved for over 35 years. Despite years of respectful communication with various governments, including six formal letters sent to President Boakai’s office, the family feels their concerns have been ignored, even though Boakai had promised to address them. They argue that this inaction represents selective justice and heightened doubts about Boakai’s dedication to fairness, impartial governance, and reconciliation.

In the letter dated August 10, 2025, Veronica Mamie Doe has given President Boakai a two-week deadline to provide a formal payment plan to ensure her brother can be admitted to a reputable medical facility. If the government doesn’t respond, the family plans to reach out to the international community, human rights organizations, and the European Union to seek justice. They also want to hold the government accountable for the mistreatment of their late mother, who was denied her rightful pension and faced public scorn despite her years of dedicated service.

Mamie Doe, the daughter of the former president, pointed out that the neglect from the Boakai administration starkly contrasts with how other former First Ladies, like Clar Weah, a foreign national, are treated, receiving generous benefits without any hesitation from the government. The family is urging President Boakai to correct this injustice and uphold the values of justice and equality.
