CDC-COP Condemns Police Brutality Against Muslim Woman and Child

The Coalition for Democratic Change-Council of Patriots (CDC-COP) has come out strongly against the excessive force used by state security on a Fulani woman and her child. This shocking incident, which was caught on video, has ignited widespread outrage and demands for accountability. The CDC-COP labeled the behavior of the involved police officers as “deeply unprofessional and reckless.” They also criticized the religious rants from the police, viewing them as a direct attack on the Muslim community.

The CDC-COP is calling for an immediate and fair investigation into what happened, along with the prosecution of the officers responsible. They stressed that using extreme force by law enforcement is simply unacceptable and could lead to citizen uprisings against state security. The group also brought attention to the troubling history of alleged human rights violations by the Liberia National Police, which includes incidents like the Kinjor Massacre and the murder of Yakpawolo Moisemai. The CDC-COP is calling on Liberians to stand against religious intolerance and to hold the authorities accountable. Civil society actors are advocating for reforms and a push for greater accountability within the security sectors.
