CDC Announces 2026 Convention for U.S. Chapter, Interim Leaders Declared Ineligible

MONROVIA, Liberia – December 28, 2025 – The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has officially announced that its U.S.-based chapter, CDC-USA, will hold a National Convention from June 24 to June 28, 2026. The event, sanctioned by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), will mark the transition from an interim administration to a fully elected leadership structure for the diaspora wing.

The convention is set to feature the attendance of the party’s Political Leader, former President George Manneh Weah. His participation is framed as a gesture underscoring the importance of the diaspora constituency and the CDC’s focus on unity and democratic processes. In a move to ensure the integrity of the election, the NEC has imposed a key eligibility rule: members of the current CDC-USA Interim Leadership are prohibited from contesting for any elective positions during the convention. The interim body is instead tasked with serving as a neutral “trustee and custodian” of the electoral process.

Oversight and Planning Committees Formed To manage the convention, two committees have been established. A 17-member CDC-USA Convention Committee, chaired by Rev. Solomon Muin, has been granted full authority to plan and execute the event. Simultaneously, a Convention Oversight Committee based in Liberia, chaired by Senator Nathaniel McGill and including former Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee and former Gender Minister Williametta E. Saydee-Tarr, will supervise the proceedings to ensure compliance with the party’s constitution.

Strategic Goals Beyond Elections While electing new officers is a primary goal, the party outlined broader objectives for the gathering. These include mobilizing supporters across the United States, strengthening grassroots organization, launching a nationwide membership and ID card drive, and fostering policy dialogue between diaspora members and the national party leadership ahead of future electoral cycles.

The NEC, citing specific articles of the party constitution, affirmed that all arrangements and rules for the convention derive from its authority and are “final and binding.” The announcement concludes with a call for unity, discipline, and democratic maturity among all CDC-USA members.
