MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced October 18, 2025, as the groundbreaking date for its new party headquarters. The announcement was made during a press conference in Monrovia by Representative, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, Chairman of the Construction Committee.
According to Rep. Koffa, the new headquarters will feature modern facilities, including a conference room, executive offices, and a dedicated level for the party’s standard bearer. The project is estimated to cost $1.5 million and is expected to be completed within a year. Rep. Koffa revealed that the funding for the project comes from various sources, including 52% from CDC members, 18% from Unity Party affiliates, 10% from other opposition parties, 10% from independent donors, and 10% from anonymous donors.
The CDC’s decision to build a new headquarters comes after an illegal eviction from its previous national headquarters on August 23, 2025. The party had pursued legal action through the Civil Law Court, but the effort has yet to yield a resolution.
On August 23, CDC political leader H.E. George Weah condemned the eviction of their headquarters, calling it unlawful and attributing it to the Unity Party government’s disregard for the rule of law. Weah stated that the government’s actions demonstrate a pattern of abuse of power and disregard for democratic principles.
Despite the situation, Weah urged CDC supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and respectful of due process. He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and democracy, highlighting the party’s commitment to upholding these values even in the face of adversity.
At the Boulevard Palace Hotel press conference today, Cllr. Koffa described the new headquarters as a “significant progress” in the party’s history and a testament to its resilience. The groundbreaking ceremony will be followed by a Thanksgiving service at the Forky Kloh Church in Paynesville, Monrovia. The new headquarters is seen as a symbol of the party’s determination to move forward despite challenges. The CDC has confirmed that the land for the new headquarters is fully owned by the party, and all preparations for construction are in place.
