CDC-USA Condemns President Boakai’s Defiance of Supreme Court Ruling

The Congress for Democratic Change – USA (CDC-USA) Interim Leadership has condemned President Joseph N. Boakai for his blatant disregard and open defiance of the Supreme Court of Liberia’s recent ruling upholding the legitimacy of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

According to the CDC-USA, President Boakai’s continued support and collaboration with the so-called “self-styled majority bloc” is unconstitutional, illegal, and a dangerous affront to the rule of law. The group argues that the Liberian Constitution recognizes only a duly elected Speaker and the constitutional requirement of a quorum to conduct legislative business, and that the Supreme Court has clearly ruled that the actions and sittings of this self-styled majority group lack legal standing and violate the Constitution.

Despite the Supreme Court’s clear judgment, President Boakai has claimed that his government will continue to work with this so-called quorum, an action that the CDC-USA says not only disrespects the authority of the judiciary but also endangers the fragile peace and democratic gains Liberians have fought to protect.

The CDC-USA has called on President Boakai to take immediate action, including: Withdrawing all executive security protection and privileges from the illegitimate “regime Speaker”; Ceasing all official communication, recognition, and dealings with Representative Richard Koon in the name of Speaker of the House, and Publicly reaffirming his government’s respect for the rule of law and full compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling

CDC-USA emphasized that upholding the Constitution, respecting judicial authority, and placing national interest above political expediency is the path to peace and progress. The group remains committed to defending the democratic order and the will of the Liberian people.

The statement was signed by Manneh George, Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change – USA (CDC-USA).

The condemnation coming from the Interim Team headed by Hon. Manneh George is highly commendable. But we encourage him to go beyond condemnation and engage Lawmakers here in the USA by presenting a Petition against the Human Rights abuses in Liberia.
